Well, the weather In New York State has been frightful the last month. It's made coming together for Infinity Night a little harder. We've only missed a few nights, but we've postponed a few as well. This week we decided to opt for something a little different. As you can see by our setup below, we opted out of a typical map and instead I created this "spaceship" layout. There's a bridge, an engine room, a lab and an armory which we used as points of interest to dole out points for possession at the end of each round. The Nomads were in control of the bridge from the start (it being their ship and all) and the Aleph began in the holds as they were trying to overtake the ship. All in all, the match went much quicker than we thought it might. There were also two High Value Targets on board but, no one really ever did anything with them.
The Nomad ladies went first, laying mines and better spreading out for a defensive hold of the bridge. The Zero popped in and out of camo as she deployed mines here and there, the only unit really making any advance toward the Achilles led Aleph.
Next up, the Aleph Machaon Link team opens a blast door and advanced down the main hall towards the control room, triggering a mine as they pass an open doorway. The only Myrmidon in range of the explosion saves and lives to fight another battle. Achilles goes after the Zero, discovering her and advancing to close combat, taking a wound in the process. The Zero goes down and the Aleph have drawn first blood. Achilles and the second Link Team take up residence in the armory and at the end of the round, each team has one point of control each.
The Nomad ladies adjust for the now eminent threat of Achilles advancing toward the Bridge. Cassandra takes a peak into the armory and lets off a couple shots at Eudoros. Eudoros saves twice and Cassandra and Riot Grrl go into suppressive fire to prepare for the next round.
Eudoros attempts to deploy a smoke grenade but Cassandra finally lands a hit and takes him out. Myrmidon takes up the mantle and tosses his own smoke, allowing the Link Team to advance undetected. They open another blast door and Achilles charges into the Laboratory. Achilles takes a wound from from Riot Grrl and Ajax comes out of nowhere to take down the Nomad Lieutenant.
Points are awarded at the end of the second round as one for the control of the bridge by the Nomads and two for Aleph strong-arming control of the Lab and still holding court in the Armory. The Nomad team, suffering from loss of Lieutenant, shift about uneasily and the Riot Grrl attempts to take the Lab back from Achilles. She goes down, but she's just unconscious for now.
With a battle cry of "I may go stupid" uttered, Aleph full on assaults the bridge. Ajax bounds in, hammer swinging and takes out a Moira Hacker. He takes one would from her as she falls and another two from another Moira unit, but enters No Wound Incapacitation and keeps going. Myrmidon attempts to run across the hallway from the Armory to the Lab but gets cut down by enemy fire. Achilles attacks the Doctor attempting to heal Riot Grrl and the Nomad army falls as Machaon takes out another unit.
Aleph controls three rooms at the end of the turn: the Lab, Engine Room and Armory. The Nomads still have enough units to outnumber the Aleph on the Bridge, but it is clear by this point that any further rounds would just fully decimated the Nomads further. The win goes to Aleph, six points to three the final score.
Trying something besides our usual kill match proved to be an interesting adventure. We will probably start dabbling more into missions with objectives from now on, unless we are under time constraints. We've been talking about a campaign for some time now and maybe that is something to take more seriously going ahead. Anyone else have any interesting match ideas? We'd certainly be willing to try out some new match types! Until next time, good gaming everyone!
